How Does Dexcom Work?

The system’s sensors and transmitter communicate with a compatible smart device+ (and Dexcom G6 app) via wireless Bluetooth(r). The sensor measures glucose levels in the interstitial fluid, a tissue-level fluid found under the skin. This information is then wirelessly transmitted to your compatible smart device+, which displays real-time glucose readings and provides trend arrows, colour indicators, and customizable alerts to help you manage highs and lows.

The Dexcom G6 system does not require finger-prick blood samples to calibrate, as it uses a factory-calibrated sensor that requires no daily calibration with a finger-prick blood test, unlike previous generations of the product. This enables you to focus on other aspects of your life with diabetes, such as work, family, or hobbies.

Once inserted, the sensor and transmitter automatically sends glucose readings to your G6 app, which is available on Apple and Android devices. The app will notify you when your sensor or transmitter is about to expire (about two weeks before the three-month mark), and you can order a replacement at any time from your online account.

CLARITY also allows users to share their data with their healthcare provider, who can log into the app at no cost to view your weekly glucose report and overview graph. To do so, simply authorize them on your CLARITY app or website. Your doctor can also interpret and review your CGM data, which is billable through Medicare and private insurers, to help you make the best decisions for your health.
