Why Does the Inside of My Stomach Feel Cold?

Everyone gets that cold, clammy feeling in their stomach from time to time. It usually happens during an intense cardio workout when the body restricts blood flow to the organs to make sure that all muscles get a quick supply of oxygen to cope with a heavy load.

This restriction can also cause your intestines and stomach to feel cold. The cold sensation can be more pronounced if you have been sweating or staying in air-conditioned rooms for a long period of time. There are also medical conditions that can cause the intestines and stomach to feel cold, such as pancreatitis or gastroenteritis. In those cases, you should seek immediate medical care because the symptoms can be very dangerous for your health.

You can help relieve the sensation of a cold stomach by eating warm foods. Try eating beef stew with garlic, soups and other cooked foods that are rich in warming herbs like ginger. You can also drink plenty of fluids, but avoid drinks that contain caffeine. Drinking a lot of water can dehydrate you, so sip your drinks slowly. You can also use a wet sponge to dampen your skin and then cover yourself with a towel to stay warm.

There are a few things that can be causing your cold stomach, including GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), hyperacidity and food poisoning. If these are causing your stomach to feel cold, you can use antacids or other acid-reducing medicines to help. Stress and anxiety and nerve disorders may also trigger a cold feeling in the abdomen, so you should seek additional treatment from your doctor if these are a problem for you.
