Why Are Black People Eyes Yellow?

The color of a person’s eyes is determined by the melanin pigments in their iris. Melanin is also responsible for a person’s skin tone and the color of their palms and soles. Because black people have a higher concentration of melanin than other races, their eyes can range from light yellow to a dark brown.

While the natural color of a person’s eyes can change over time, it is typically a sign of an underlying medical condition. The most common cause of yellow eyes is a build-up of bilirubin. This is a chemical substance that is produced when your liver breaks down old red blood cells. It is normally filtered by the liver and turned into bile, which is stored in your gallbladder and then excreted from your body via stool (feces). When a gallstone blocks your bile ducts, it can cause the whites of your eyes to turn yellow.

If your eyes are yellow, it’s important to see a doctor right away. They will be able to diagnose the underlying medical condition and provide treatment accordingly. If the cause of your eyes turning yellow is a result of an infection, treatment can include anti-biotics or steroid eye drops. If the cause is a liver disease, treatment may involve medication or rehabilitation programs.
