With the show hitting its halfway mark, it’s only a matter of time before one couple is eliminated each week. This week, the stars performed a series of routines inspired by iconic music videos, which made for some impressive performances. However, a few couples found themselves in the bottom three when the judges’ scores and viewer votes were combined.
Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber kicked off Whitney Houston Night with a cha-cha to “You Belong With Me,” capturing the cool guy and yearning band nerd vibes of the Fearless song’s video. The judges were impressed with their performance, but it wasn’t enough to earn them a top score of 29 out of 40. After their head-to-head win against Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold, the pair received bonus points and avoided elimination.
In a surprise twist, Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater were sent home on Monster Night. The pair slayed their Argentine tango, but it wasn’t enough to save them from the bottom two with retired football star Adrian Peterson and Britt Stewart. Carrie Ann Inaba noted how much the duo had improved since their first dance, but sadly, it wasn’t enough to stay in the competition.
Another shocking exit came when Tyson Jenner and Jenna Johnson were eliminated on Motown Night. The pair was in danger of going home alongside Harry Jowsey/Rylee Arnold and Alyson Hannigan/Sasha Farber, but ended up last when the judges’ scores were combined with America’s votes. In an attempt to save the pair, host Tom Bergeron and professional partner Julianne Hough performed a dance-off.
