What is Partialism?

Partialism is a term that refers to a sexual fetish in which a person feels aroused by only one part of another person's body. People with partialism feel an attraction to the armpits, backs, breasts, legs, feet, and other non-genital body parts of a person rather than just their genitals. This fetish is also known as podophilia. Partialism is a type of paraphilia, which is an unusual or atypical sexual interest. The latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines a person as having a paraphilia if they have an uncontrollable interest in atypical things, situations, or activities that cause them distress, loss of control, or risk of harm to themselves or others.

While researchers don't know what causes partialism, they do know that it develops before puberty and that it can lead to difficulty with romantic relationships. Partialism can cause feelings of shame and embarrassment, and it may be difficult for people with this condition to disclose their fetishes or seek medical help. People with partialism often suffer from social ostracism, and this can make them more likely to engage in risky behaviors that lead to further exploitation.

During the early church, some members of the trinity used to believe that Jesus was only a “partial” God. Their beliefs were later condemned as heretical. Today, most Christians accept the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity that teaches that all three persons are equal and have a different function within the divine nature of God.
