A Transcendental Meditation Mantra is a sound that helps you achieve deeper levels of peace and awareness. This silent form of meditation is a non-religious alternative to religious meditative practices and was introduced to the world by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
How to Find a Mantra
The mantras used in transcendental meditation should be syllables or sounds with meaningless words, vibrations or a primordial hum (Om) that have resonance with the mind. The goal is to bring attention inwards so it can be detached from all external stimuli that trigger thoughts or feelings.
How to Use a Mantra
You can pick a mantra on your own, or get one from a fully trained Transcendental Meditation teacher. They will assign a unique sound to you, and you’ll learn how to meditate using it over four sessions.
Your meditation instructor will meet with you regularly to track your progress, explain the technique and correct any mistakes that occur. They will also provide you with free follow-up sessions to refresh and refine your TM technique.
What are the Benefits of Practicing Transcendental Meditation?
Studies have shown that transcendental meditation has numerous health benefits, including lowering stress, blood pressure and cholesterol. It can also promote sleep patterns and combat anxiety and depression.
How to Begin a Transcendental Meditation Practice
To begin the meditation process, sit comfortably upright in a chair with your eyes closed. You can do this for 20 minutes twice a day, or whenever you feel like it.
