The Best Places To Be On The Andaman Sea

The Andaman Sea comprises 797,000 km2 of sparkling, crystal clear water along Thailand's west coast, famed for its sheer karst cliffs and limestone towers, and home to hundreds of gorgeous tropical islands making it a tourist paradise, especially for aficionados of watersports. This is the perfect place to go scuba diving and snorkelling or to venture out on sailboats, it's a living treasure trove of aquatic natural beauty. Let's take a dive into some of the Andaman Sea's best destinations to inspire you to book that flight and join in on all the fun!

Phuket - Phuket is the Andaman Sea's largest island, it features a lushly vegetated mountainous interior surrounded by miles of white sandy beaches. Be sure to check into one of the spectacular Andaman beach suites in Phuket, so you can enjoy the sea and surf from your luxurious lodgings and be lulled to sleep by the gentle waves lapping on the shore. For some lively nightlife visit the vibrant town of Patong to enjoy fresh seafood, cold drinks, and live music into the wee hours. The island is surrounded by great dive spots, it's easy to hire a boat and an experienced guide so you don't miss the submerged side of the island's many attractions.

Koh Phi Phi - Comprised of two large islands, Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Leh and many other smaller islets, this is one of Thailand's most iconic scenic wonders. This is where you can find the famed James Bond Island, a day trip that passes by the amazing limestone towers the film made famous and deposits you on Maya beach, home to Scaramanga's high-tech lair! There are wonderful dive sites galore for the scuba divers and snorkellers, it's easy to hire one of the locals to ferry you around in your own private long-tail boat, they're nothing fancy, but make up for it in rustic seafaring charm and their ability to pull up on any beach.

Khao Lak - Located in the province of Phang Nga, this 25-kilometre stretch of Andaman coastline features beautiful, pristine beaches to stroll along. The area doesn't see as many visitors as the more famous islands do, so it's a great place to get away from it all and discover a beach hideaway that you will very likely have all to yourself! It's the perfect place to watch the sunset, you can meditate with the gentle surf to lull you into your own personal state of Nirvana. The coastline has a few small towns scattered along it where you can take a break from your beachcombing to enjoy some of the spicy local cuisine, but beware, they like it hot-hot, and it can leave your eyes watering! Ask for your dishes "mai pet", not too spicy, and be sure to order a milky Thai ice tea to wash it all down with, the tea's acid helps soothe the burning! For fresh seafood Thai style, this place can't be beat!
