Shiva Meditation is one of the best ways to increase your awareness and enhance your spiritual practice. It teaches you to meditate on the divine energy that sustains our universe, and to let go of all external thoughts and beliefs.

This meditative technique is a highly effective way to achieve total relaxation, peace of mind, and to open up your third eye. It is also an excellent way to gain better focus and concentration on your life’s goals.

The basic premise behind this form of meditation is to concentrate on the image of Lord Shiva and his qualities. The first step in this technique is to sit on a comfortable cushion or a mat and stretch your back, shoulders, hips, thighs, and feet. Try asanas such as Paschimottanasana, Utthita Padahastasana, Baddha Konasana, and Vajrasana.

Next, chant the sacred mantra “Om” to awaken the mind to the presence of Shiva and his divinity. Then visualize Shiva in whatever form he appears to you. This can be Nataraja, the cosmic dancer; Adiyoga, the meditating monk; Ardanarishvara, the incarnation of the male and female aspects of the Godhead; or just Shiva in his pure state of bliss.

Once you have settled into this meditation, chant the Om Namah Shivaya mantra with a definite understanding to experience the divine power that extends its never-ending energy to your soul and body. After chanting the mantra, think of Shiva as he dwells in pure bliss and is the only being that exists.
