Physical, Emotional and Mental Wellness

physical wellness

Physical wellbeing involves maintaining regular exercise, healthy food choices and adequate rest. It also requires receiving medical treatment when necessary to prevent illness or injury or manage chronic health conditions.

Maintaining physical wellness requires constant evaluation in order to monitor its progression over time. Schedule annual checkups with a healthcare provider and keep an eye on key metrics like blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate. Use an activity tracker or notebook to record daily behaviors like diet, sleep and exercise so you can form new healthy habits.

Regular physical activity increases flexibility and strength, reduces your risk for cardiovascular disease and obesity, helps manage stress, improve mood and enhance self-esteem. If you're new to exercise, start small: aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity on most days; gradually increase it as you become fitter; add muscle strengthening activities on two or more days per week as part of a gradual plan for fitness improvement.

Emotional wellbeing involves being aware of and accepting of one's emotions and needs and wants in an appropriate manner, while having strong, supportive relationships with family, friends, and others.

Recognizing and responding appropriately to signs of mental disorders such as depression or anxiety requires being aware of potential red flags - including changes in behavior or emotions, extreme feelings, difficulty focusing or thinking clearly, as well as unexplained physical symptoms such as headaches or stomachaches.
