How to Recover From Food Poisoning

Food poisoning can be a very unpleasant experience. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are just a few of the symptoms you might encounter when you ingest bacteria or toxins from contaminated foods. In most cases, mild food poisoning won't require medical attention or antibiotics and will disappear on its own after a few days. In the meantime, stay hydrated by drinking water or other non-alcoholic liquids, such as rehydration solutions.

It’s also important to avoid dairy products while suffering from food poisoning, as they can make the diarrhea worse and cause more discomfort. You should also avoid spicy or fatty foods, as these can be difficult for the stomach to digest and may aggravate your symptoms. Caffeine and alcohol can also be a bad idea, as they are diuretics that will cause you to urinate frequently, which can lead to dehydration.

One of the best natural remedies for food poisoning is to brew ginger tea with honey, which can soothe your upset stomach and help you feel better faster. Try making a simple cup of ginger tea by boiling some slices of peeled, fresh ginger in hot water. Then, stir in a tablespoon of honey and sip it slowly. Alternatively, you can buy premade herbal tea bags at most grocery stores and pharmacies. In some cases, you might be able to find oral over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medications that can also help ease your symptoms. However, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor before taking any medicine for food poisoning.
