In the workplace, mouth swab drug tests are very common. Also known as oral fluids drug test, saliva test or cotton swab drug test, they are quick and easy to carry out and cause no pain. This type of test is also less invasive than urine testing and can be conducted right at the place of work. While it is not as accurate as blood or urine tests, a saliva drug test has its advantages especially in cases where an individual cannot pass a urine drug test due to an issue such as dry mouth.
How to Pass a Mouth Swab Test
While some people may claim to have found a secret way to cheat a mouth swab drug test, most of these methods are unreliable and can actually damage the sample. It is important to note that it is illegal and unethical for anyone to tamper with or try to pass a drug test in any way, even if the method they use seems to work.
To ensure a clean sample, employees must avoid eating or drinking anything other than water for at least 10 minutes prior to taking a mouth swab drug tests. The most common collection method is to use a swab stick with a sponge or absorbent pad attached to swab the inside of the cheek and under the tongue to collect saliva. Other ways to collect a specimen include spitting, draining and suction. Usually, a laboratory will test the saliva specimen for the presence of drugs by performing a confirmation test using more sensitive methods such as gas chromatography or liquid chromatography.
