A popper is a really fun way to fold paper so that it makes a loud popping noise when slammed downward. This is a fun activity to do with kids and it is a great way for them to practice their fine motor skills.
Start with a regular 8.5” x 11” piece of paper and lay it down flat. Next fold the top edge down about how far is shown in the image above. Then fold the other side down to that same line. Then fold up the bottom corner to where it is sitting in between the larger folds. Now grab the bottom folded edges of the paper and pinch them between your thumb and first finger. This creates two pockets that will catch the air when you swing your popper down.
When you are ready to use your paper popper, hold it with the extended marks (where the air pockets were) across your arms and raise it overhead. When you are ready to go, swing it downward and the popper will open up and make a loud snapping noise when it hits the floor. This is a lot of fun and it is a great way to close out the year or celebrate a new one.
Paper poppers also work well to surprise and prank people. Just be careful not to do it in a place where you can’t hear the reaction of the person being pranked! Also, thinner paper tends to create a louder pop than thicker paper. Be careful when handling these because too much force could tear them.
