The wings of angels come in many different shapes and sizes. Some angels such as guardian angels or archangels have large long feathered wings, while other angels such as the Angel of Love - Cupid have small cute wings. This article will show you how to draw angel wings of both types.
The first step in drawing angel wings is to sketch out a rough outline. This can be done with a pencil, marker or even a crayon. Make sure that your lines are not too precise as you will be adding a lot of detail later on. It is also a good idea to draw the outline of the wings slightly sideways as this makes them look more realistic. This is similar to how birds in real life have their wings positioned, they are rarely perfectly aligned.
Next start to add in the actual wing structure. This is done by making curved lines close to the foundation line of the wing, these will form the main body of the wing. The wing will also have a small 'S' shape to it which is curved down and to the right.
Once you have finished this add in the second layer of feathers to your wing. These will be wider at the top and then gradually narrow down towards the tip. There are also smaller feathers called lesser coverts that will cover the larger feathers. These are harder to do but try to keep them consistent and flowing naturally with the larger feathers.
