How to Douch With Shower Attachment

Douching can help you feel cleaner and more comfortable during sex, but it's important to do it correctly. Incorrectly, or too often, you risk damaging your anus and intestinal lining—and even, in severe cases, causing water intoxication, which can be life-threatening.

Conventional douching involves filling a special bag with water and suspending it at a specified level above the end of your anus. The douching instrument or nozzle is also usually required to be kept in a fixed position after use to prevent the liquid from spilling. This arrangement requires hooks and may be an annoyance to other members of your household.

A shower attachment, if properly installed and used, solves these problems. This device attaches to the stub-out pipe and diverts a portion of the water flow from your existing tub spout directly to your anal douching tool or nozzle. This eliminates the need for a separate douching bag, reducing storage and maintenance issues while enabling you to douse at a convenient time during your shower.

Most shower attachments connect to the stub-out pipe via a slip-on or threaded design, which allows you to adjust its height with a screwdriver or wrench. A few options also incorporate a vertical slide bar that lets you slide the showerhead up or down for better access to your anus. In addition, a few models allow you to connect the douche hose to your existing showerhead so it's always within reach. This is particularly convenient for those who may need to douche frequently or when diarrhea is present.
