How to Do Tea Meditation

Tea Meditation is a relaxing ritual to prepare and savor your favorite tea. This is a practice for self-care that signals to your brain that you are important and deserve some space to sit with yourself.

During your tea meditation, you can practice mindfulness and be aware of all the things that come into your mind. This is a great way to train yourself to be more mindful in your daily life, because it is so easy to slip into the busyness of our lives and allow all kinds of thoughts to take over our heads.

Step one: Choose a tea that speaks to you and your current mood, mental state, and physical needs for today. Maybe you need a caffeinated tea for energizing, or a herbal blend to calm your mind and body.

Next, place a teaspoonful of leaves in your cup and pour enough water to cover the tea leaves. Watch the tea leaves gradually unfurl and release their flavor and color.

After two minutes, pick up your cup of tea and observe how it changes. You might notice that it starts to smell different, or the temperature changes as you sip it.

When your mind begins to wander, pause and think about three things you are grateful for right now. Gratitude is the key to a happy, peaceful life! When you begin to appreciate what’s happening in your life, you are able to let go of the expectations that keep you from being truly present.
