How New Couples Can Create a Healthy Sleeping Routine

Living with someone new can be both delightful and challenging. You get to spend more time with your favorite person, but you also have to adjust to one another's schedules. Considering how vital sleep is to human health, establishing a positive bedtime routine is critical.

Discuss Expectations

The first step is for both of you, to be honest about what you need in terms of sleep. Be realistic about your schedules. For example, if one of you gets home from work late at night and the other needs to be up early in the morning, heading to bed at the same time might be impossible. On the other hand, when you both have similar work schedules, going to bed together on most nights is practical.

Prioritize Comfort

You both have to feel comfortable in the bed itself. If one of you is moving into the other's dwelling, the bedroom may need some upgrades. Also, browsing new queen beds and queen mattresses can assist in finding a comfortable space for you both to sleep. Ensuring that both you and your partner have enough space is an important part of getting healthy sleep. Consider your sleeping habits as you choose a mattress. Talk about temperature and lighting preferences as well. When one member of a couple likes the room warm and with a little bit of light, the other partner may need to invest in a small fan and an eye mask.

Put Away Electronics

Relaxing in bed at the end of a long day gives couples an opportunity to talk and bond. Electronics can disrupt that atmosphere. Some people do scroll through social media as a way to unwind at night, but this activity shouldn't interfere with your relationship. Set a strict time limit for how long you can use electronics in bed before talking with one another.

Address Serious Issues

One partner might be keeping the other up at night with snoring or talking. Snoring could be a sign of a serious health issue, such as sleep apnea. Letting your partner know about your concerns in a gentle way is pivotal. By doing so, you're taking a step to better your partner's health and the overall relationship. If your partner is keeping you up all night with snoring, your health is suffering too.

Getting into a new routine with your partner has its ups and downs. You get to learn more about each other and create your own life. However, falling asleep can come with some hurdles. As long as you are both open to changes and honest with one another, you can successfully navigate this experience.
