How Much Sugar is in a Redbull?

The question of how much sugar is in a redbull is one that many people ask. While a can of red bull is certainly not the healthiest drink to have, it can still be consumed in moderation and doesn’t cause any significant health problems if you are not already eating a diet high in sugar.

One 8.4 fl oz can of red bull contains 27 grams of sugar. That is comparable to the amount of sugar found in other carbonated soft drinks or even some fruits. In addition to sugar, one can of red bull contains a number of other ingredients including taurine (an amino acid), sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, artificial flavors, natural colors and more. Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid that is distributed throughout the body in high concentrations in the muscle, brain and heart. A 154-pound person naturally has 70 times as much taurine distributed throughout their body as the 27 grams of sugar in a single can of red bull.

Red bull also contains a number of water-soluble vitamins such as niacin, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid and vitamin B12. Water-soluble vitamins do not get stored in the body as fat-soluble vitamins and instead circulate throughout the blood and are released when needed.

In addition, a can of red bull contains caffeine which is a mild diuretic. Caffeine is a well-known stimulant and can increase energy levels but when used in excess can have negative effects such as nervousness, insomnia, anxiety, nausea and upset stomach.
