How Much Caffeine is in a Latte?

For many people, starting the day with a cup of coffee is a part of their routine. One of the most popular types of coffee is a latte which is made by combining espresso with steamed milk. The drink usually has a layer of foam on top. A typical latte has between 63 to 120 milligrams of caffeine in it. The amount of caffeine in a latte depends on the size of the beverage and the type of espresso used.

Typically, a latte will have more caffeine than a traditional brewed cup of coffee because it uses a higher concentration of espresso. A latte can also have a variety of add-ins such as flavored syrup and cream that can increase the caffeine content of the drink. Having too much caffeine can have negative effects on your health so it is important to limit your intake.

The amount of caffeine in a latte will also depend on the number of espresso shots that are used. Adding more espresso shots will result in a higher caffeine content while using less will decrease the amount of caffeine in the beverage. The type of beans can also impact the caffeine content in a latte as different types of coffee beans contain different amounts of caffeine.

The FDA recommends keeping your daily caffeine intake below 400 milligrams. A double-shot latte has around 128 milligrams of caffeine so it is important to keep this in mind when drinking lattes. If you want to limit your caffeine intake, try drinking a single-shot latte or choose a decaf latte which has almost no caffeine.
