How Many Grams of Protein Are in a Chicken Wing?

As a staple for many high-protein diets, chicken is found in just about any restaurant menu. But did you know that a whole wing provides a good amount of protein? In fact, one skinless grilled chicken wing has approximately 23 grams of protein. But this number can vary depending on how the wings are prepared. For example, if they’re breaded or fried, they will have more calories and less protein.

However, even if they’re covered in a spicy sauce with added fat and sugar, wings are generally considered healthy when eaten in moderation. Aside from the fact that they’re low in sodium and rich in selenium, vitamins, and minerals, wings also provide essential amino acids our bodies need to function properly.

According to the National Chicken Council, Americans will consume about 1.3 billion wings during the days of festivities leading up to and including Super Bowl Sunday. This is more than twice as many wings as they consumed on average in 2017.

While the fatty portions of chicken are certainly a delicious treat, it’s important to note that not all meat is created equal when it comes to nutrition. To maintain optimal health, we need to be consuming the right amounts of each type of food, and chicken wings are no exception.

Aside from the fact that they’re a great source of protein, chicken wings are also naturally low in sodium and high in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients like potassium, phosphorus, and vitamin B6. And while they’re not the best choice for those on the keto diet, it’s still possible to make them a part of a balanced meal if they are cooked in a low-sodium sauce or coated with low-sugar marinades.
