How Long Will Kybella Swelling Last?

Swelling after kybella treatment is a normal side effect and usually subsides within a few weeks. Patients can manage it by using ice packs, keeping their heads elevated and taking over-the-counter pain relievers. The swelling can feel like tight knots under the chin, and sometimes the area may be a little numb. This symptom is caused by the inflammation of the fat cells. This is why avoiding aspirin and blood thinners prior to the procedure is important.

The Kybella injection contains deoxycholic acid, a natural molecule that occurs in our digestive system to help break down fat molecules. When injected into the double chin, it will begin to break down the fat cells and your body will naturally filter away these damaged cells. This results in a slimmer neck and chin and an overall more slender face.

During the procedure, the Kybella injection is delivered by a trained cosmetic provider with the use of a fine needle. Your provider will mark the areas to be injected. Then, the injection is placed in small amounts at multiple points under the chin. Once the injection is complete, the skin will be massaged to improve the results.

The kybella procedure is relatively quick and can be done in a physician’s office. After the injection, it is recommended that you relax and let your body heal. Some people experience more side effects than others, but the majority of patients see a reduction in their double chin after just a few treatments.
