How Long Is 12 Weeks Pregnant?

At 12 weeks pregnant, a fetus is almost 2 inches long and is growing fast. During this week, the first trimester is winding down, so some early pregnancy symptoms may start to wane. For example, morning sickness should begin to disappear and outrageous exhaustion-fog may clear up a bit.

This is a good time to start taking photos of your bump, as you will want to remember this moment forever! If you are able, take pictures at different angles so you can see how your belly grows over the course of your pregnancy.

If you haven’t yet, consider getting a prenatal appointment at this point to hear your baby’s heartbeat and see what his or her body looks like on an ultrasound. The doctor can also help you choose a delivery plan and discuss any questions or concerns you might have.

Your uterus is stretching to make room for your baby at this point, which can cause a tight feeling in your stomach and digestive issues, such as gas or constipation. You might also experience what is called round ligament pain, which feels like jabbing pain in your abdomen or hip area and can be alleviated by avoiding exercise and using ice packs.

At this stage, your baby’s brain and nerves are developing rapidly, so it’s important to fuel them with the right foods. Try to eat plenty of protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and dairy products. Be sure to include foods rich in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which supports your baby’s cognitive development and visual acuity.
