How long it takes for a hangover to go away depends on how much alcohol you had, the state of your health and other factors. Typically, symptoms last up to a day or so after your blood alcohol level returns to zero.

Many people try to prevent a hangover by taking an over-the-counter pain reliever before they go to bed and drinking water in between drinks. The best way to avoid a hangover is to drink responsibly and monitor how much you're drinking. It's also a good idea to eat food before you start drinking and continue to eat throughout the night. This will slow the absorption of alcohol into your system and can help reduce hangover symptoms, such as a headache, dizziness, thirst, fatigue and nausea.
