How Big Is Your Butt?

A large butt is usually defined by the circumference of the largest section of the hips. Based on anthropometric research and data from clothing manufacturers, a big butt is considered to be around 44 inches in circumference for men and 40 for women. A large butt is also commonly associated with a narrow waist, which really accentuates the buttocks and makes them look bigger than it would otherwise.

While genetics play the biggest role in your butt size and shape, dietary habits can make it grow or shrink. Eating protein-rich foods to build muscle mass and healthy fats to add a layer of padding are essential. Likewise, excess body fat can skew the ratio of your waist to hips, making your butt appear small by comparison.

The best way to determine if you have a big butt is to take your measurements while wearing figure-hugging clothes. This will ensure the tape is parallel to the floor and not positioned incorrectly. It's a good idea to have someone help you do this so they can double-check the results. It's also a good idea to wear shoes when measuring your hips so they don't skew the measurement.

There are 4 main butt shapes, which vary in shape from one person to the next based on their skeletal structure and the amount of fat that covers it. The shapes include square, rounded, V-shaped and inverted. Women with narrow hips often have a V-shaped butt, while a V-shaped butt can also occur in older women due to changes in hormones and decreased collagen.
