Hormone Replacement Therapy For Men

Many women think of hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes and vaginal dryness as a normal part of the menopause transition. In reality, they are not and can be treated with hormone replacement therapy, also known as HRT. Hormone replacement therapy replaces hormones that are naturally low or out of balance, and it allows patients to feel more like their younger selves.

Hormone replacement therapy has been around for decades and is a powerful tool in helping women cope with symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, bloating, and mood swings. However, the treatment received a lot of negative publicity from a national study called the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). This led to the public perception that hormones increase the risk of heart disease and stroke in some people. However, more recent research has shown that the risks of these hormones are lower than previously believed.

During a consultation, an OB/GYN will discuss different hormone replacement options with the patient. These include bioidentical hormones derived from plants that have the same chemical structure as the body's own hormones, or conventional estrogen plus progestin to mimic those created in the human ovaries.

Testosterone deficiency is also common in men, and it can lead to a loss of muscle mass, a weaker voice, low libido, and difficulty maintaining an erection. TRT is a treatment specifically designed to help boost testosterone levels, and it can be administered in the form of pills, gel, patches, injections, or pellets.
