An extended abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that contours your abdomen, hips and flanks, and removes excess skin and fat. It can be combined with liposuction for additional body sculpting results.
This type of tummy tuck is recommended for patients who have experienced significant weight loss and have excess skin in their abdomen, hips and flank area that exercise and diet alone have been unable to correct. It is also common in women who have undergone multiple pregnancies, leaving their abdominal muscles and skin stretched out.
During an extended abdominoplasty, our plastic surgeon will make an incision along your lower abdomen, and then follow it around each of your hips. He will perform muscle plication (if necessary) to repair the separation of your abdominal muscles, and then remove unnecessary tissue through the incision. After he has removed all of the excess skin, he will then close the incision and dress the wound.
After a patient undergoes an extended tummy tuck, they will notice a dramatic change in the shape of their waist and hips. This change can be life-changing for many of our patients, and it is often the defining moment when they realize that they have achieved their ideal body image.
