Chiropractic Tips for Getting Your Spine in Line

Regular chiropractic adjustments can help you maintain good health in addition to best practices to maintain a strong spine. Your spine holds the body together and allows you to walk, run, jump, stand, and do almost anything else in life. Read on for four helpful tips to keep your spine healthy.

1. Improve Your Posture

Proper posture helps ensure a healthy spine while also strengthening your back muscles. Whether you’re standing or sitting, you can improve your posture by placing one hand on your stomach and one hand on your low back. Try pulling these two body parts together to create a straight line from hand to hip to head for a better posture. It may feel unnatural at first, but just give it time: having good posture will eventually get easier and become second nature.

2. Sleep Comfortably

Your sleeping position can contribute to back pain. A recent study showed that individuals who slept on their side experienced lower levels of discomfort, pain, and stiffness when they woke up than those who slept on their backs or stomachs. The results also suggest that side sleepers are more likely to have relief from lower back pain during treatment.

Sleeping on your side also puts less pressure on your spine while still allowing you to breathe comfortably. A pillow under your knees can help you find a comfortable position that won’t stress your posture.

3. Wear the Right Shoes

When you’re trying to get your spine in line, it can be helpful to have foot support from shoes with high arch supports. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on chiropractor-approved insoles to transform your posture. Make sure your shoes are the right fit for you and that they allow you to walk and stand comfortably to help you maintain a straight spine throughout the day.

4. Visit a Chiropractor

Whether you go to a chiropractor or not, you should always be doing your part to keep your spine aligned and your muscles relaxed. Your spine is directly connected to your brain and nervous system, so if it isn’t in line, you’re going to experience some pain. Chiropractic treatments can find misalignments in your spine and help realign them, which will relieve pain from headaches and backaches.

If your spine isn’t positioned correctly, you can suffer from back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Put the health of your spine first by keeping these tips in mind to promote a healthy posture and strong spine. If you are looking for a consultation, Supreet Shah, DC, MS, CCSP, a chiropractor at Truspine in San Francisco, may be able to help you with back pain.
