Bhakti Yoga - The Path of Devotion

Bhakti yoga, or the Path of Devotion, entails connecting to God through emotion and faith. It has become one of the most popular forms of yoga practiced today in Western culture; national and local kirtan (chanting) groups often perform weekly kirtans (chanting groups), which helps calm nerves while creating inner peace.

Yoga is well known for cultivating qualities of love, compassion, and humility in its practitioners. This practice serves to dissolve one's ego while encouraging an awareness of oneness with all living beings and objects - ultimately leading to deep spiritual awakening and an enhanced knowledge of our true selves.

Devotional practices of Bhakti Yoga involve keeping an unbroken remembrance of the Divine; padasevana or expressing love towards all beings and things in life; archana or worshiping through external images such as Ganesha, Shiva or Durga and worshiping external images/idols as Ganesha/Shiva/Durga idols etc; providing simple services like helping the homeless or volunteering; ultimately all efforts should be focused on surrendering all to the Divine so as to purify one's heart while finding freedom from suffering.

Bhakti yoga draws heavily from Hindu culture and spiritual beliefs, with particular attention paid to various deities. According to popular belief, however, anyone can connect to Divinity through their chosen ishta (devotion). This personal connection to something larger than themselves makes bhakti yoga accessible - making this practice accessible regardless of religious background or beliefs.
