Bhakti Yoga

bhakti yoga

Bhakti yoga is a spiritual practice combining devotion, meditation and chanting in order to foster love for and union with the Divine. According to ancient texts like Bhagavad Gita and Shvetashvatara Upanishad, this form of yoga entails "union through devotion," or simply loving for loving's sake - something unique among other forms of yoga practices.

Bhakti yoga can be seen as an all-encompassing path toward self-realization. Beginning with recalling the Divine and progressing to padasevana (expressing devotion through service), then to adoration ( suppressing worldly desires), until finally reaching sat-chit-ananda, or pure blissfulness is reached.

Bhakti yoga's devotional practices may involve rituals, images and idols as well as chanting and singing to promote love and surrender, or they can come directly from one's heart with no external objects or deities as targets of reverence; in its most advanced forms this reverence becomes the realization of God in everything including our own hearts - providing a profound awakening of soul as well as profound sense of inner fulfillment.
