Benefits of Jiu Jitsu

Mental Discipline

There are many differences between Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts. One main difference is the technique. Unlike most martial arts where the focus is on striking and kicking your opponent, Jiu Jitsu focuses on closer combat. This technique is also called “grappling.” With Jiu Jitsu, you are close to your opponent, while also defending yourself. This means that while you have to use physical strength, you also have to use your mental strength to be able to quickly act and react. You have less time to anticipate the next strike, as there isn’t a lot of distance between you and another person.

Great For Kids

It is common for kids to begin some sort of sport. Whether it’s soccer, hockey, or even karate. Jiu Jitsu is an amazing sport for kids to get into. It will help build confidence in themselves, as you aren’t working with a team. But rather yourself. It is also a great way to keep their focus. As Jiu Jitsu makes it so that you have to be in tune with not only your own body but your opponent’s body as well. In anticipation of their next move.

Self Defense

Let’s face it, the world is a scary place. It’s important to know how to defend yourself, in any situation. It’s one thing to know how to throw a punch and quickly run away. But sometimes we don’t get the luxury of that benefit when we’re attacked. Most of the time, an attack will happen from behind, when we’re not expecting it. This is why Jiu Jitsu has become increasingly popular as a self-defense class. Because the art form of it is that you learn how to protect yourself from close contact. You learn how to control your opponent, and get the upper hand.

Meditative

Typically, when we think of meditating, the last thing we picture is martial arts. Of any form. However more and more Jiu Jitsu is being used as a meditative form. For one thing, the need for increased focus allows your mind to completely block any and every other thought running through your head. It also is said to have anxiety-reducing benefits while practicing. And any form of exercise is proven to reduce stress levels. Being able to block out unwanted thoughts, while simultaneously getting a workout? Sounds like a no-brainer.

Teaches Patience

This is great for kids and adults alike. Because honestly, we could all use a little more patience. The thing about Jiu Jitsu is that it thrives on having patience. This is because it is not only a defensive sport but also an offensive one. Half the time you will be focused mainly on watching your opponent closely and anticipating their next move. You have to find the perfect time to strike while maintaining your own defense. This can be irritating for some. Having to wait until your opponent makes a move. But if you act too quickly, you may lose your upper hand, and it’s over. Jiu Jitsu helps calm your mind, and wait for the perfect moment.

Conclusion: Benefits of Jiu Jitsu

In conclusion, I think that Jiu Jitsu is a great martial arts practice. Whether you are just wanting to lose weight, or learn some self-defense. Or if you are looking into what sport is right for your child. Jiu Jistu is perfect for many reasons.
