Meditation Helps Relax Your Body
The benefits of daily meditation include lowering the levels of stress hormones cortisol in your body, helping you relax and improve your immune system. It can also ward off heart disease, migraines and other health issues related to chronic stress.
How to Meditate
Find a quiet place and sit comfortably. Many people meditate while sitting in the classic lotus position, but that’s not the only way to meditate successfully.
Start with your breath, and focus on the sensation of each inhale and exhale. As soon as you notice your mind starting to wander, bring it back to your breathing. You can do this over and over, until you feel that the meditation is complete or the time is up.
Choose a mantra to help guide you through the meditation session. A mantra is a short, meaningful phrase that can be chanted or thought. Some mantras are positive, while others are negative.
Try to say the mantra aloud, but don’t repeat it too often. This can cause drowsiness or restlessness.
Set a timer for three to five minutes and begin by focusing on your breath. Then, pay attention to your surroundings and feelings as you go about your meditation.
Then, try to find a positive or peaceful feeling to focus on during the meditation. You can do this by using your imagination to create a scenario that you feel you could be in or that you want to experience.
