Benefits of Changing Fuel Filter

Benefits of Changing Fuel Filter

A new fuel filter improves the flow of fuel to your engine. This is one of the most overlooked car parts that can dramatically improve your vehicle’s performance and gas mileage.

The fuel filter is responsible for removing dirt, debris and other contaminants that can be found in gasoline. It also ensures that fuel goes to the engine in its cleanest form, which means it burns more efficiently and maximises power.

Having a clogged fuel filter is detrimental to your vehicle’s performance and gas mileage as it causes the engine to work harder to deliver the same results. Fortunately, changing the fuel filter is a simple process that’s typically included as part of a tune-up at your mechanic’s.

Removing the old fuel filter

The first step in a simple fuel filter change is to locate the filter. It’s often located bolted to a rail on the bottom of your vehicle, ahead of the rear wheels. It usually has two hose connections, one for fuel in from the tank and another for fuel out to the engine.

Remove the old fuel filter by loosening the clamps on either side that are holding it to the hoses with your pliers. You can use whatever tool you’ve got lying around to do this, but a hose-separation tool can make the job go faster and easier.

Installing a new fuel filter

Once you’ve removed the old filter, install the new one in the same direction as the old one. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s installation directions in your owner’s manual or contact your local NAPA Auto Parts store for more information.
