There are many reasons why people choose to be a foster parent. Whether it's for kids. Or even for pets. People all over the world foster. Some choose fostering to simply help children who need a good home. Others foster because they themselves aren’t able to have children naturally. And others foster as a way to see if having children is something they themselves want to do in the future. Whatever the reasons are, there are many benefits to fostering. Some people only think about children when they hear the term fostering. However, you can also foster animals. Fostering animals is just as important as adopting. There are many animals in shelters. The reality is animals get put down. Because of overcrowding. Or a medical issue that makes it harder to be adopted. When you decide to foster an animal, you provide them a home. Stability, and shelter. While they are recovering from a sickness. Or while they find their furever homes. Without people offering to foster these animals, they are forced to remain in cages. Or on the streets. Or worse. You can also foster to adopt. This is a foster fail. This is a time when it is good to fail at something. If not encouraged. In fact, most foster animals become adopted. That's how I got my kitty. It was the best failure of my life.

Providing Stability By Being A Foster Parent

Much like with fostering pets, fostering children is super important. It's a way to provide stability. They are taken from their homes for a multitude of reasons. Then put into the foster care system. This means that they have to leave their bedrooms. Their homes. Their comfort. Even their routines. As well as most of their belongings. Usually pretty quickly. Taking in foster children with these circumstances means that you are bringing them back into a home. You are giving them a sense of belonging, and security. And safety. And Hope. This is a wonderful thing. Since older children can be placed into the foster care system for years. 

Prepare For Parenthood

Having a child is a lifelong commitment. It’s something no one really seems ready for, until it happens. A lot of people can be on the fence about if it’s right for them or not. Once you decide to have a child, you can’t really take it back. It is dependent on you for the rest of your life. That’s a lot of pressure. Fostering children is a great way to provide a home for a child in need. It's also a way to truly see if parenthood is right for you. Much like adopting foster pets, many foster parents fall in love with their foster child.  They choose to adopt. This is the best case scenario for a foster child. 

Keeping In The Family

Did you know that a lot of the time, family ends up fostering family? In fact, when a child is taken out of the home, the first idea for placement is with a relative. When there isn’t a relative capable to care, they go into the foster system. However, if you get a knock on your door with the option to take in a child that belongs to someone in your family, it’s so important you take that opportunity. It helpful to the child to stay within the family. It also makes it easier for them to be placed back with that parent, when they are ready.  Additionally, it strengthens the familiar bond as well. And it's easier for the child to not be placed with strangers, while their world is being shaken up.
