Baoding Meditation Balls
Meditation balls, also known as Chinese exercise or Zen balls, are a pair of small spheres that are typically used in conjunction with Qi Gong (the ancient Chinese practice of slow breathing and graceful movements) to promote relaxation, balance, and inner peace. They are typically made of marble or agate, and are hollow inside.
Sizes & Weights
Most Baoding balls are hollow and can be made from a variety of different materials including agate, stone, and jade. Some are solid and have a metal spring in the center that produces a pleasant chiming sound when manipulated.
Some have a sand-filled interior, allowing them to feel heavier in hand. They are often engraved with beautiful designs and symbols associated with health, harmony, and a myriad of positive forces.
The balls are usually sold in pairs and come in a wide range of sizes, weights, and materials. They are available in different colors and shapes and are a great way to improve your dexterity and strength, relax, and reduce stress.
How to Use Meditation Balls
To use meditation balls correctly, you should rotate them repeatedly in the palm of one hand while not letting them touch or clash. This helps keep the meridians and acupressure points in your hand constantly in motion, which can help to relax your body and mind, relieve stress, and stimulate the flow of energy through your organs.
When you are ready to advance, try rotating 3 or 4 meditation balls at once and switch between clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Eventually you will be able to do this with both hands simultaneously!
