Ashtanga Yoga For Beginners

Ashtanga yoga is an energetic practice utilizing set sequences of poses with coordinated breathing. Though difficult for newcomers to Ashtanga yoga, if practiced regularly and carefully to meet personal goals it can boost physical, mental, and spiritual strength.

Repeating the same sequence of poses each day helps improve concentration and relax your autonomic nervous system, which regulates heart rate, respiration rate and blood pressure. Yoga practiced this way also increases strength and flexibility while improving self-awareness and increasing mindfulness.

Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga provide a systematic framework for building self-discipline and reaching spiritual enlightenment. These eight limbs include asana (postures) practice as well as Yama and Niyama ethical principles - with Yama emphasizing nonviolence, truthfulness, moderation, non-possessiveness while Niyama refers to personal observances including contentment purity self-study surrender to higher powers as part of personal discipline and attainment of self.

Ashtanga yoga asanas develop strength, flexibility, balance and focus through asanas that focus on strengthening, stretching, balance and focus. Ashtanga breathe helps purify the body while clearing away stagnation that prevents meditation from taking place. While Ashtanga poses can be challenging for most individuals to begin with, with practice any individual can find their own yoga practice and develop their own practice of Ashtanga.

Beginners should begin with Yoga Chikitsa to help align, detoxify, open and strengthen their bodies before moving on to intermediate postures and finally advanced ones - each series builds on top of one another.
