How do you want it
In a career that would end tragically less than two months after "California Love" reached #1, 2Pac rewrote the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the sexy “How Do You Want It.” The track, a collaboration with Jodeci singers Cedric “K-Ci” Hailey and Joel “JoJo” Hailey, paired silky R&B melodies with swaggering roughness. The calculation was sound: The singers brought the soft appeal; the rappers supplied the abrasive grit.
Ron Hightower’s video threw the trio into a party with ’90s porn stars and featured Pac dressed in a white suit with women riding mechanical bulls—there’s even an X-rated cut of the video, but even in the safe-for-broadcast version, the clip feels like an outright orgy. It was the first of many explicit rap songs to reach the top of the charts. How do you want it, indeed? Listen below. (Courtesy Interscope)
